new years resolutions

I don't like new's years resolutions because after a month of making them it's as if they don't exist anymore....but this year I decided to make some (5 minutes after saying I wasn't going to). One of them was to learn to play the guitar. This will be my fith or sixth run at it over the past 15 years! Three nights ago I realized that unless I actually pick up the guitar this is NOT going to happen, again. So I went and got it out of the closet, tuned it, and looked up some guitar lessons online. Before I was just winging it, but now I have actual lessons which seem to be helping. But I am not happy with the fact that it every night before I go to bed it feels like my left hand has been run over by a car and my fingertips are numb. Everything I am playing sounds awful right now, but I still have high hopes it will get better. I thought that if I blogged this experience it will in some way keep me accountable to the 15 minutes of daily practice I am trying to commit to.

Give yourself a couple of weeks and the fingers will stop hurting, or at least hurt less! mine are somewhat calloused, and i'm wondering if i'll ever have normal touch sensations in them again! they're also peeling somewhat, which is really frustrating when the skin gets caught on the skinny strings... i know, TMI. sorry

Angie,

I'm glad to hear that you're practicing...don't do more than 15 minutes for some time though. If you keep it up it shouldn't take too long for the pain to go away.

I had quit playing for some time and am still getting back to where I was...(and I've been playing for 10 years again)so keep it up and you'll get better and better.

You may enjoy Muriel Anderson...she has some music on u-tube.
